“BRICKTOWN” …a nickname from the history of brick-making in our village.
“GOSPEL” …the message of God’s reconciling love for mankind.
“FELLOWSHIP” …a
caring community of believers that embraces all people.
How is the church's role
like brickmaking?
For a hundred years leading up to WWII, bricks were produced from the clay being excavated along the Hudson River. As
people of faith in Christ, we are being shaped by the will of God…we are like clay in His hands.
As each batch of clay was pressed into the molds for firing, they received
the maker’s name, stamped as a permanent image to
be recognized as a product of that manufacturer.
Likewise, God’s people are given the “image of Christ” to
conform to. We are “called by His name”, ever to be known as belonging to Him.
Then there’s the fire! No brick would be ready for use until it went through the
furnace to be made firm, able to support the weight of other bricks. That fire is symbolic
of the tests of faith that are necessary to develop our character and
spirituality. Apart from “fiery trials”, we are unprepared to be used as God’s building
blocks which make up His family. The stability and maturity required of us is a byproduct of the
‘fire’.
At Bricktown Gospel Fellowship, we are committed to becoming
solid believers… individuals of godly character and ‘mature’ faith. We
also seek to support others in our fellowship on their journey towards the “image of Christ”. In
this way, we are “bricks” which are being placed alongside other bricks (with the ‘mortar’
of unity) to corporately become “God’s building”. Our assemblies are characterized by spirited singing, faith-filled prayer, honest relationships, and biblical teaching that is practical and
relevant.
"Therefore,
if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation..."
